Painting a Mask Tutorial

As seen on WebTv Newsgroups
Modified for PSP7 by me. 8-)

Much thanks to Sandy B. for the first B&W tulip image.
MrsK for paint and blur technique.
The Image Magic Tutorial for that can be found HERE
More on Painting and Luminize HERE

Other Black & White images as well as more IM tutorials using the B&W images can be found on MoonDogees site HERE

I have used This One

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Open PSP.
I used version 7.
Open your B&W flower image.
Copy. Leave open but set aside/minimize the original.
We will be working on the copy because we need the original later.
Select the Bucket Flood fill
Select the first color and begin filling portions of the flower.
You may need to adjust the Tolerance level if you are filling more or less portions than you wish. Higher will fill more. Lower for less.
Select different colors for the areas.
Here is mine after filling.
Next, select EFFECTS.... BLUR... Gaussian Blur. I used these settings..
This is the result...
With your blurred image still active... go up to, MASK... New... From Image...
and... choose your original B&W image from the drop down menu as your mask.
What you don't see is the "Source Luminance" is clicked ON. That option is just under the drop down menu as seen below...
You should get this...
Open a new image with a black background that will accomodate this image.
Copy the masked flower and paste onto your black background.
~~~~~~~~~~

For the B&W images with a white background, I copied and negatived the image...

Then used the same steps as above...
Copy the new Negatived image
{Close the one with the white background}

Working on the Copy..
Color and Gaussian Blur

Mask with the Negatived Image and Paste onto a new black Background.

The Finished Image

This One ~~~~ Colorized

I take NO credit for the images or the idea or the IM technique.
I only tried it in PSP and am recreating my steps to achieve this beautiful effect in PSP on this page.
Your results may vary.
